We teach in our own 25 metre pool beside the classrooms, then take you out to the reefs and manta cleaning stations of the Nusa Penida marine park. Small groups, patient instructors, and a team that teaches in six languages.

The centre
A proper pool makes nervous first dives easier
Our pool is 25 by 15 metres and 2.4 metres deep, built for dive training, and it sits right next to our classrooms and equipment room.
That means you practise clearing your mask and controlling your buoyancy in calm, clear water with your instructor beside you, before you ever get on a boat. It is also where we run refreshers, freediving training and free underwater hockey every Wednesday night.

Around twenty sites between Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Penida, from gentle coral slopes for your first ocean dive to the drift dives that made the area famous.

How do I book a dive with Sober Diving Center?
Send a message on WhatsApp or email and the team will confirm your dates and course from there. Most fun dives and Discover Scuba Diving sessions can be arranged a day ahead, but PADI courses and the Divemaster programme fill up faster in peak months, so book those earlier. Check the price list first so you know exactly what to ask for.
Where is Sober Diving Center located?
Sober Diving Center sits on the main road through Jungut Batu, Nusa Lembongan, about one minute's walk from the beach and five minutes from Jungut Batu harbour by bike or car. Getting to Nusa Lembongan covers the full trip over from mainland Bali.
Do I need to be certified to dive in Bali?
No. Discover Scuba Diving lets you dive under close instructor supervision with no certification at all, down to a shallow, controlled depth. If you want to dive independently with a buddy afterwards, Open Water is the course for that. Read Diving without certification in Bali for how the uncertified option works day to day.
Will I see manta rays?
Very likely. Manta rays are seen around Nusa Penida all year, most reliably at Manta Point and Manta Bay. The manta ray page has more on which site suits your level.
How many people are in a group?
Groups stay small. Fun dives run at a maximum of four divers to one guide, and courses are usually taught at a ratio of one instructor to one to three students. That's part of why the centre can move at your pace rather than the group's.
Are there strong currents at the dive sites?
Most sites here are drift dives, so you move with the current rather than fighting it, which makes them easier than they sound. If you'd like more confidence in moving water first, the drift diving specialty is worth doing before a site like Crystal Bay. Diving conditions and safety covers what to expect site by site.
